I am in total agreement with you. I think both sides need to talk about actually caring for our planet and not staving off the "peak flow" crisis, or the "climate change" crisis, both of which are signs of our planet saying "you cannot sustain this sort of childish behavior". Agreed about not falling "hook, line and sinker" for the first "green machine" to market. The model T needed a lot of work for us to be where we are today. It was a great beginning, but needed contstant re-creation to get us here. And it could be that someone burning plant oils or something like that at the time had better emissions or that we could've done buggies better for quite some time before converting to fossil fuels or skipped fossil fuels altogether. That's likely a logical bridge to far, but who knows...

I like Honda's hydrogen car, the only emission of which is water, but again as you said, I know nothing about how much energy is needed to produce that fuel cell, what the ecological damage is of disposing of it, what it's lifecycle is, etc.

As far as computers go I love macs as opposed to PCs because we junk them less. Asthetically, they are more timeless than their PC counterparts, more closely resembling art than a functional brick, and they maintain higher degrees of performance over the long haul. I know many MAC users who almost never throw out their old macs, they simply re-purpose them when they can no longer serve as their primary computing powerhouse.

Great overview, Kyle. And the Wired article is an exciting read. It really gets you excited about electric cars, but I'm still not sold on that as a long term solution. We get a lot (most?) of our electricity from coal, a huge percentage of electricity is lost while transmitted over the grid, etc.

Electric cars look great from the consumer's perspective - no gas or emissions, just a plug - but I hear very little discussion of the true energy costs/savings that go on behind the scenes - cradle-to-grave energy cost of different cars, energy efficiency of fuel vs. electricity generation. I'm no expert on these areas, but we need to talk about them to be an informed public and not just be sold on the first "green" thing to market.

I'm not selfish at all really. We just had very differing ideas about what we we're trying to achieve and for whom. The property was already eyed for development 3 years ago and I was forced to bring the others on board just to get the extra time we did. We would have been gone by now either way.

Anonymous, I think you are correct in stating that behavior is shaped by our worldview, but Einstein would I think choose a different term. He would often take as his modus operandi for scientific discovery the truths that he could feel in his body (ie - gravity experienced in an elevator) and try to figure out what natural forces were causing that feeling. This is not to say that truth is derived through feeling, but rather that it our human nature is to reason truth from experience. To take the Bible as a literal "worldview" would lead to many strange lifestyle choices, particularly if we took the Old Testament as a literal guide for behavior. I think that worldview, and imagination are largely synonymous, in the sense that the sum total of one's imaginings can be defined as the frame from which one views the world. Good thoughts. Keep 'em coming.

I agree that art is influencial, but OUGHT it shape our lives is the question, there is a big difference between what "ought's" my understanding and what influences my understanding.

Please don't see me as negating art but being careful of the things that create "oughtness" that then gives life.

I'm of the mindset that there is a time and place for everything. Jesus presented the gospel in different ways so in that sense He did recreate it but at the same time I think the point that we need to LIVe the gospel is dead on in America today. In America we hear a lot of people talking but see few people walking so I do think that right now In america it is more important that we live the gospel than speak it (but don't think we abandon speaking entirely just emphasize less). In other parts of the world where people are serving it is more important that they speak to the reason they serve. So time and place. That's my two cents.

I am not bothered at all by either of your exhortations, and they are encouraging. I'm reminded of the passage of Scripture that speaks of the Word not returning void. You are correct that God will have his way w/out our creative re-invention, yet we also see Jesus use parables, as Anonymous put it to "disguise" the gospel so that only those with "eyes to see" would see it. I have far less Biblical training than Drew, so I cannot presume to know why Jesus did this. I only know that he did it, and in following his example I think we can feel free to "re-create" the gospel - as my definition goes - by breathing new life into it... IF it is reaching dead ears. This is also the practice of many a pastor, ie - sermon examples which are stories that contain elements of the Gospel, re-creating or re-framing the hearers conception of God's Good Word to us.

One more word to drew... no 2. I love unpackaging. You are very astute to say that we often add to much to the Gospel. I am not asking anyone to add to it, meaning (I think) to make any more stipulations than Christ makes for us to enter the Kingdom, but I do think if people can conceive of entering the Kingdom as entering into the simple obedience and repentance of a child sent on a mythical quest requiring his bravery (not too far astray from Pilgrim in Pilgrim's progress) then we may get somewhere with the been-there, done-that's. And the Muslim world may very well connect to the story of the prodigal son, whose near eastern culture of honor would ring very true to their own. Is the prodigal son parable a "re-packaging" of the Gospel? Here's another one to mess w/your brain. Is the entirety of the Bible the Gospel?

Ok... so to the second comment. Is the Gospel really about prosperity? Prosperity when and how? In this life by our own efforts? Or in the new heavens and the new earth as a result of God's good work through us, earning eternal rewards?
